EXECUTIVE SUMMARY :
The Project is to fall and under control of the Ministry of Health and other related Ministries and Government Agencies establish a Telemedicine Network to cover the whole of MOZAMBIQE to bring the best available medical care to all the people of MOZAMBIQUE.
Through the utilization of Broadband Internet technology all relevant Ministries, Government Agencies and Hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities will be interactively connected and able to do direct voice and video communication with each other, the Faculty of Medicine at Eduardo Mondlane University and, where appropriate by way of agreements with other institutions – e.g. the Oxford University which presently has a qualified Doctor studying the incidence, prevention and treatment of Malaria in children.
The Integrated National Telemedicine Network – (INTN) – will make it possible for Specialists to; over remote closed circuit television via Satellite assist local healthcare givers in diagnosis, prognosis and advice to patients directly.
It will also make the provision of health education, medical supervision and expert medical opinion to health practitioners throughout MOZAMBIQUE and its remote areas possible. By the rolling out of mobile clinics staffed by nursing staff, in areas presently lacking such services, these services will be possible.
A focus of the ITNT will, in conjunction with integrated medical care and education, specifically also be on creating the needed capacity for implementation of the National Strategic Plan to Fight HIV/AIDS and the Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty.
